David Black

David was raised in Lexington, Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Mary Baldwin College in 2000, and in 2003 graduated with a Masters in Business Administration from James Madison University.

David has worked as a controller for a closely-held manufacturing company that specialized in government contracts, and spent several years as a cost accountant with one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of textile and related products.

In 2002, David began working for Young, Nicholas, Branner & Phillips, a local accounting firm. He later went on to buy the company and lead as its Managing Partner. After the company’s dissolution in 2022, David opened DB Accounting & Brokerage to continue his legacy of providing top-notch accounting services in the Shenandoah Valley.

David is a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) and American Society of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). With more than 20 years of public accounting and private industry experience, David serves a variety of small businesses in Harrisonburg and its surrounding counties. His focus is on providing professional, personalized service to his individual and business clients by developing comprehensive strategies to meet their needs. He focuses not only on federal and state taxation for his business clients, but reviews choice of business structure, estate plans, and annual tax planning prior to the close of each business tax year. David provides competent and timely advice through general business consulting and redesigning onsite accounting systems to better track profit and loss.

David and his wife, Meredith reside in Rockbridge County, Virginia. David and Meredith have three adopted children, Matthew, Daniel, and Vivienne. David and Meredith are active members of the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church, where David has served as a deacon and on the Church Council. David enjoys hiking, reading, and working puzzles.
